2025 DGR!

Tuesday 6th May 2025

I'm very happy to be registered for the 2025 DGR and I'm even more pleased to be making the Ride on my 1975 BMW R90/6 with my friend, Levi, on his 1976 BMW R90/6.  My BMW, "Rocinante" was a labor of love; resurrected from the garage of a friend where it had languished for over thirty years.  It has only 41,000 miles, with documented BMW service every 5,000 miles since new.  The gasoline in the tank and carbs had deteriorated and looked like molasses, there was dirt and schmootz everywhere, and many, many bits 'n' pieces needed replaced.  I put in lots of work to bring it back to running condition with the goal to "revive" it rather than an attempt at restoration.  I wanted to have it end up looking, and performing, like a much loved "survivor" and part of that effort included finding and incorporating vintage "period correct" goodies that could have been lovongly added back when it was new(er).  To that end it has vintage Lester wheels, Progressive Suspension fork springs, a BMW R90S fairing with a Krauser windscreen, handmade stainless steel mufflers, a Browne side stand, Wixom panniers, Krauser exhaust pipe heat shields, Luftmeister crash bars, and a solo police seat and handmade rack.  My concessions to the 21st century are modern tires, LED turn and brake lights in the Wixom bags, an AGM battery, stainless steel hardware, and the R90X front brake upgrade.

If you know literature, Rocinante was the name of Don Quixote's tired old horse, so it seemed fitting that this crazy old man's trusty steed should carry that name as he embarks upon quests of galantry and honor!

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride has grown into a world-wide event supporting issues concerning Men's Health.  I'm honored to be a participant and supporter.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Tuesday 6th May 2025 On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
