Another Year - And Cancer Free
Sunday 11th May 2025Next Sunday (18th) I will once again be riding in the Distinguished Gentlemans’ Ride in Edinburgh, we ride in aid of prostate cancer and mens’ mental health. If you gave last year please do not feel any obligation to donate again this year, your support has been humbling. If you didn’t donate last year, I know who you are and your card is marked 😊
I am a prostate cancer survivor.
I was diagnosed in November 2023 and spent 2024 undergoing hormone treatment and radiotherapy to eradicate the cancer. Eleven of the twelve biopsies of my prostate were malignant – cancerous! The treatment I received from the Cancer Centre at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh was, without a shadow of a doubt, exceptional.
Today I am cancer free and boast a PSA of 0.3% - that’s a PROSATE SPECIFIC ANTIGEN TEST, if you’ve not had one and you’re a male over 50 years old – GET ONE! Ask your GP and don’t take no for an answer.
Early diagnosis saved my life.
It has been a momentous year since the last DGR, our eldest daughter and her hubby moved just up the road from us – that has been huge for Alex, those of you who know him will appreciate the bond Sam & Alex have and how much that means to us. My other baby Nikki - bought her first house, it’s a mere 14,000 miles away from us in NZ – ROADTRIP?
We sold our lifetime business to a global company with a real family ethos, loads of new friends and the right time for us for a change. I'm super excited about the next few years - and wow I have a boss and I got my first review in 30 years a couple of weeks ago 😯
And there you have it...............
There has been huge developments in prostate cancer diagnosis, a new spit test is almost ready for public release and a finger prick blood test is readily available, your donations helped get these tests to almost market ready.
Gentlemen it’s good to be alive. I'll be riding this baby!
Elvis! Now that's a story.
Anyways
The arrival of our first grandchild, Josh, trumps it all though, Sam & Chris presented a Jedi bebe on 4th May –
May the fourth be with you Josh, by the time you get to my age hopefully prostate cancer is a disease of bygone years!
