My Blog

Oops. I Did It Again...

Tuesday 13th May 2025

Hi everybody. I didn't update the blog once on my training ride, but here are some key stats:

-3,610: miles ridden.

-9: Days of the trip.

-8: Days riding.

-4: Days riding in rain.

-5: The number of people that the two couples in Key West were hoping their number would be at the end of the night if they paid my way onto the booze cruise.

-0: Times I joined two couples on a booze cruise.

-74: Clutch lever adjustments

-20w50: The oil I had to use when I ran low in Valdosta after being told by the people at Advance Auto Parts that 10w60 didn't exist.

-12: Estimated bottles of bourbon consumed in my honor.

-2: Intense acts of kindness that were both unexpected and immensely necessary.

-6: The number of times "Red" told me that I needed to get home before they announced the Emergency Broadcast System and closed the roads because "they" were taking over.

-5 or 6?: Members of Menstown that I finally got to meet, inclusive of affiliate members who happen to be ladies and are part of the league.

-1: Sandwich eaten named "Old Dirty Shoe".

-Alot: The number of painkillers I stole from my niece.

-1.5: The number of hands I have that are still swollen and tingly. The other half I've written off as a lost cause. I think I broke it.

All in all, it was an epic trip.

Part of the point of the trip was to visit Ernest Hemmingway's home. I thought it appropriate to visit one of the great "men's men" in honor of the purpose of the DGR (for those who don't know, EH vented his head with a double barrel shotgun). But since it's turned into a crass commercial venture, I just swung by.

Regardless, the trip was a great opportunity for me to clear my head and start planning some exciting things that are going to come after the DGR.

But...for right now...donate, dammit.

Training Ride!

Thursday 1st May 2025

Hi everyone! So - I find myself with a little spare time on my hands and the opportunity to do something I've wanted to do for literally days - a little tour of the Southeast ending in the Keys.

I'm leaving St. Louis and headed to Louisville where I'll overnight and see some friends (hopefully Barber, Juva, Tom, and Karen!), then headed to Virginia Beach (Dirk, Jen, Matt), then to Savannah (Rose and Richard), then headed south to Miami (Beach), the Keys (Pool), and that's as far as I've gotten.

So - yeah - I'm gonna ride about 3,000 miles over less than a week to train for a 20 mile ride.

What's that mean for you?  It means that I'll post a little blog post here on the daily on the funnsies and scaresies of this training ride.

That being said - if you wanna follow along on this next, in a series of, stupid ideas, you should donate. We're getting close to my goal and I'd love to be able to know that mental health and prostate concerns are getting funded while I ride 3,000 miles to see some people, take a trip I never thought I would, and do a little thinking and clearing of the braingrapes.

Huge thanks to the amazing Brook Foust for being okay with me doing this, helping me get my ish together in less than 4 days for it, and just being a generally badass best friend, partner, and the love of my life.

Now if you haven't donated, DONATE! As little as will make you feel like I'm not going to make fun of you for being a cheapass. And if you're poor, put your fucking latte down and give me $5.

Doin' Good and Ridin' Bikes

Saturday 5th Apr 2025

Hey friends!  I'm so glad you've found my fundraising page for the Distinguished Gentlemen Ride. Two things they're doing that I support - Prostate Cancer Awareness - because I have a prostate, and Men's Mental Health.

The latter has and continues to impact me. I've struggled with depression and mental health issues for my entire life, and until Brook gave me the courage to address them, they were left untreated.

I work every day to keep my ish together. Even on meds. But motorcycles have helped me in a way that I never expected. And so it's an honor to get to support a ride like this.

Please throw a little cash in toward the goal. Because odds are good you know someone with a prostate. And who has mental health challenges. And who likes to dress up in dandy clothes and ride motorcycles.

Alright, alright, alright, you know me. So give up the cash, you tightwads.

I'm Riding for Men's Health in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Saturday 5th Apr 2025 On Sunday the 18th of May 2025, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. So, before I press my tweed and polish my boots, I'm asking you to join me in raising funds and awareness for these causes by donating what you can for this meaningful cause and to help the men we love, live happier and healthier lives.
